ABASP TICKET SYSTEM

UNIFICATION OF ELECTRONIC TICKETING

Aintention of the State of São Paulo to implement a single ticketing and collection system in collective public transportin the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo has been going on for a long time, more precisely in 1998, with the initiative called METROPASS, integrating metropolitan public transport on rails and tires.

Over the years, other studies and attempts were implemented, such as the separate delegation of the ticketing system, segregated from the delegation of transport services, but the alternative did not prove to be perennial and definitive, given the need for transition at each end of the contracts , with the same difficulties encountered in the previously existing model.

The existence of agreements between the different transport systems or consortium models brought impacts and weaknesses to the collective public transport of metropolitan passengers in the face of thetechnological limitations, lack of interoperability, insufficient information to the Government- more precisely, the difficulty of consolidating this information - in addition to the impossibility of integrated management and inspection if the municipal systems adhered to the formats, requiring the reduction of powers of the adherent municipal entities.

After the attempt to centralize ticketing and collection in 2017, equally frustrated as previous attempts, studies on the feasibility of forming a non-profit civil association,Inspired by an innovative experience reported by the electricity sector, which would be in charge of taking over the billing and collection service, ensuring modernity and efficiency to the system, began to be carried out and um Working Group created by the Government of the State of São Paulo began to analyze the feasibility of applying this model,

The completion of these studies created the right environment for the formation of ABASP and unification of the Electronic Ticketing and Collection System.
